Julian Assange Wikileaks webcinema portrait who launched Cablegate
that catapulted US State Dept into a worldwide diplomatic crisis by publishing 251,000 State Department documents with The Guardian and Der Spiegel this Sunday afternoon. View Cinematic portrait of daniel ellsberg who talks on wikileaks principal Cables whistleblower bradley manning and White House Presidents critiques accusing officials in lies as Obama administration had presented a misleading portrait of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq WikiLeaks presents a new depth of detail about how the U.S. military has seen, for all war years. Mr. Ellsberg described Mr. Assange admiringly as the most dangerous man in the world for challenging governments, particularly the United States. He said the WikiLeaks founder had been pursued across three continents by Western intelligence services comparable to Obama administration threat to prosecute Assange to his own treatment under President Richard M. Nixon.
WikiLeaks says that, contrary to the state department’s fears, it also initially intends to post only limited cable extracts, and to redact identities. At the start of a series of daily extracts from the US embassy cables – many of which are designated “secret” – the Guardian discloses that Arab leaders are privately urging an air strike on Iran and on grave fears in Washington and London over the security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons programme along with alleged links between the Russian government and organised crime while material includes a reference to Vladimir Putin as an “alpha-dog”, Hamid Karzai as being “driven by paranoia” and Angela Merkel allegedly “avoids risk and is rarely creative”.On the whole, the cables from the Middle East expose the superpower’s weaknesses. Washington has always viewed it as vital to its survival to secure its share of energy reserves, but the world power is often quickly reduced to becoming a plaything of diverse interests. And it is drawn into the animosities between Arabs and Israelis, Shiites and Sunnis, between Islamists and secularists, between despots and kings. Often enough, the lesson of the documents that have now been obtained, is that the Arab leaders use their friends in Washington to expand their own positions of power.

The cables published today reveal how the US uses its embassies as part of a global espionage network, with diplomats tasked to obtain not just information from the people they meet, but personal details, such as frequent flyer numbers, credit card details and even DNA material.
