University of Cincinnati.
Dr Bruce Ivins worked for the US Army Medical Research Institute of
Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Fort Detrick, Maryland, and was actively involved in the investigation to find the perpetrators of the anthrax attacks allegedly committed suicide due to “relentless accusation and innuendo”, his lawyer declared.
In a statement on Friday, USAMRIID said it “mourned the loss of Dr Bruce Ivins, who served the institute for more than 35 years as a civilian microbiologist… we will miss him very much”.

The eldest of his two brothers, Thomas Ivins, said he was not surprised by the events that have unfolded. “He buckled under the pressure from the federal government,”

Alan Pearson, director of the Biological and Chemical Weapons Control Program at the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, urged the FBI to keep investigating.
“If Ivins was indeed responsible for the attacks, did he have any assistance? Did anyone else at the Army lab or elsewhere have any knowledge of his activities prior to, during, or
shortly after the anthrax attacks?” Pearson asked.
