the World Trade Center 9/11 in 2001 unfold in front of his eyes from a house in neighbouring Brooklyn cross the East Rivert. The author of the Rabbit tetralogy told how the “horrendous” experience had shocked him deeply.
“To actually be seeing it not a mile awaywas very moving, disturbing, unsettling. It’s like the bottom fell out of your own existence somehow.”
He thought that the attack was a “terrible blow”
to US self-confidence.

world history and may be becoming more unusual.”
